A fine Meiji period Japanese bronze vase, dating to the 1880s, with high relief panels depicting birds in flight among pines and landscape elements.
The vase has a tall architectural neck with archaistic double handles terminating in stylised mythical heads. The lower body features deeply modelled relief scenes with hand chased detail, set against a rich chocolate brown patina with warm undertones developed over time.
The silhouette is elegant and refined, with a narrow cylindrical neck rising from a rounded body and a textured foot rim. The surface shows natural age wear consistent with late 19th century Japanese export bronzes made for Western collectors during the height of Japonisme.
Height: 38 cm
Weight: 1.58 kg
Condition: There is an age-related crack to the underside base plate. The foot rim remains stable and the vase stands securely. The crack does not affect display integrity but has been priced accordingly and is clearly shown in photographs.
A sculptural and decorative Meiji bronze with strong presence, ideal for console styling or a curated Asian art collection.
